SANILIGA, British Columbia — The death toll from the March 11 tsunami in Japan rose to 1,300 in the first seven days after the event, according to government figures.
The first day alone saw the death toll rise to 1.4 million.
The toll was also revised down from 1,979 to 1 to 1 million.
More: The death count has been revised down to 1 in the Philippines, 1 in Japan and 1 in Cambodia.
The total number of fatalities, however, is still higher than the official figure of 1.8 million.
