Hawaii’s islands, which were once popular destinations for couples who went to sea, could soon be a dumping place for drugs as more and more tourists arrive, Hawaii News Now reported.
The islands have been struggling with the loss of tourism and locals have begun to voice concerns that the islands could become a dumping grounds for drugs.
Hewaii News Now said that the state Department of Health and Welfare is working to make sure the islands are safe for the future.
“The Department of Public Health and the Department of Land and Natural Resources are working together to make Hawaii’s island vacation destinations a safe and enjoyable place for everyone to enjoy,” the report said.
According to Hawaii News Line, the islands have had several visitors to the islands who are addicted to methamphetamine and are seeking help.
Hilton Hawaiian has been the primary destination for tourists who have come to the island for vacation or for the chance to relax and have a romantic getaway.
Hollywood Beach Resort and Spa in Honolulu, a popular destination for weddings, has also seen a spike in drug users recently.
